Summers Sheriff Local Custody
The Summers County Sheriff's Office is a county law-enforcement agency. It is not a long-term county jail and does not operate Southern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility. The official Sheriff page has no inmate roster, recent-release feed, jail-information app, or booking-photo archive. That absence is consistent with West Virginia's regional detention structure. People arrested on Summers County matters may be taken through a local process and then committed to SRJCF in Beaver, which WVDCR operates.
A person can leave the local stage in more than one way. A magistrate may authorize bond or recognizance release. The person may also be sent to SRJCF while the case proceeds. In the first route, the court order and the Sheriff's own arrest or incident paperwork can explain the event. In the second, DCR controls the booking and later release or movement record. Asking the Sheriff for an SRJCF exit record sends the request to the wrong custodian.
Confirm a Summers Sheriff Release
Start with the last known event. If it was a Summers arrest, collect the full name, approximate arrest date, known date of birth, arresting agency, and case number. Similar names can produce false matches. A photograph alone is not enough to establish identity. Next, check the court and regional-jail channels in an order that preserves the line between an entered order and physical release.
- Ask the Sheriff whether it maintains the arrest or incident report for the identified event.
- Search the official Magistrate Record Search by name or case number for the initial appearance, bond, or misdemeanor disposition.
- Check the Regional Jail OIS for a current SRJCF booking tied to Summers County.

- Request the DCR release or movement transaction when a regional booking once existed.
The free magistrate search can show general case information and a document list, but actual documents come from the clerk. A bond-posted entry shows that a condition was met. It does not record the minute the person left custody or prove that no other hold applied. For a felony after indictment or information, the Summers Circuit Clerk holds the controlling disposition and sentence documents.

Summers Sheriff Arrest Records
Ask the Sheriff for a defined record, not “all inmate information.” Useful descriptions include the arrest report, incident report, warrant return, transport record, or a photograph created and held by that office. Supply enough detail to identify one event. If the Sheriff says DCR created the booking record at SRJCF, redirect that part of the request to DCR rather than assuming the record does not exist.

West Virginia FOIA, Chapter 29B, applies subject to exemptions. A written request should reasonably specify the record. Under section 29B-1-3, a public body must respond as soon as practicable and within five business days, excluding weekends and legal holidays. The response may produce copies, set an inspection time, or deny in writing. It is not an unconditional five-day production deadline for a large request.
Ask for electronic copies when the record exists electronically. If some material is exempt, request redaction and the reasonably segregable public remainder. A public body may charge actual reproduction cost but may not treat staff search or retrieval time as reproduction cost under the cited section. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, medical, victim, security, and active investigatory information may still be withheld.

Its site does not publish a dedicated FOIA form or records email, so confirm the current way to deliver a written request before sending personal identifiers.

Summers Release Court Records
Summers County uses two court routes. Magistrate Court handles misdemeanors, warrants, initial appearances, bond questions, and felony preliminary proceedings. Circuit Court is the court of record for felony dispositions and appeals. The Magistrate Record Search accepts first name, last name, or case number and returns a limited set of results. It can help locate the case, filing date, charge, disposition, and document list.
The search does not supply the actual document. Ask the correct clerk for the entered bond order, dismissal, disposition, sentence, commitment, or later completion order. “Entered” matters because a proposed order or docket note may not control. A judge's release order states legal authority, while the custodian's transaction records processing. If another warrant or detainer exists, the person may not return to the community even though one Summers case permits release.

No Summers Sheriff Release Feed
No official Sheriff source located in the research sweep publishes people released in the last twenty-four or seventy-two hours. There is also no confirmed Sheriff mobile app or booking-photo release feed. Daily Incarcerations on the DCR menu concerns admission or current-incarceration material, not releases. Relabeling it would create a false record source.
For a same-day question, check Regional Jail OIS, the latest court entry, and VINE, then call or request the named person's DCR record. For a date range, ask DCR whether it maintains release transactions from SRJCF coded to Summers as the committing or charging county. Define exact start and end times and request existing fields. SRJCF serves seven counties, so a request for all facility releases would not answer a Summers-specific question.
Summers Releases Through SRJCF
Regional detention occurs at Southern Regional Jail in Beaver, outside Summers County. A current match in the Regional Jail OIS supports present reported custody. If that match disappears, search the state prison channel. A person sentenced in Summers may move elsewhere in DCR. VINE can report a custody change, but DCR delays transfer notice until arrival for safety. A gap can therefore mark movement rather than community release.
Request the admission and release or movement transaction from WVDCR at 1409 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311. Include SRJCF, the Summers case, and the OIS or booking number. Useful public fields include admission and exit timestamps, exit type, release authority, releasing facility, and public destination category. Ask for a code legend if the record gives abbreviations.
This division of custody is the central local fact. Hinton offices handle the arrest, bond, and court result. The state facility in Beaver handles the regional booking and physical custody exit. A sound confirmation may need both records.
After a Summers Sheriff Release
Leaving custody does not always end court control. Probation is a sentence or condition supervised through the judiciary. Home confinement, Day Report, and Drug Court are also court or community-corrections mechanisms. They are not parole, and none is a public released-person locator. The sentencing or bond order is the durable source for the conditions imposed.
Parole is different. The West Virginia Parole Board decides whether an eligible imprisoned person may continue the sentence in the community, and DCR Parole Services supervises parolees. If the record uses “probation,” contact Summers County Probation and obtain the court order. If it uses “parole,” identify the DCR OIS number and contact the appropriate Region 4 parole route.
